Hi/Bonjour,
Nous devons bientôt nous déplacer à Londres, qu'en est-il? quelqu'un s'est occupé d'un partenariat il me semble, des nouvelles?
Comment procède-t-on?
A bientôt,
Romain

what we did in the forest.

Now it is almost four weeks ago. Jeanne took me to a forest just outside of London. It was quite cold and no sun. We were waiting for the sun. Jeanne wanted to test the filters she had made for the camera. We filmed while I was walking and she made a cellophane wrap on two trees. It looked nice.
I had brought a performance sculpture that I wanted her to try on in the forest. It is called Art. I think it needs some more work before I can use it for a performance. I tried it on as well. We found a nice place where two men were chopping up wood to sell. Big piles and a small fire. I tried the sculpture and Jeanne did some filming. I think it went well. The sun just shone up for three minutes that day.
Unfortunately i won't be able to come to the workshop in London next week, but am looking forward to see what you come up with.

HELLO EVERYONE!
quite a few of us "parisians" are coming over for a week-end (in my case a little bit longer w-e, 8-11 may) so I was wondering if any of you have an old sofa for spending a night or two? and it would be great to meet up! so what are your plans for the weekend 10-11 may? and also I haven't been to London for a long time, so please tell about what there is to see and do.
and if any of you londoners are coming to paris let us know, one or two of you can sleep at my place whenever you want to...

Hello everybody,
I just feel the need to share the lecture I just attended with people. It was called 'Towards an Ethics of Meta design' and it was by Clive Dilot from Parsons New Design School. He had some inspiring theories and they said they where going to put the lecture on the web. Ill keep you informed.
Hope to see some of you soon.

Hello Romain!
I can make one, easy design and all. Would the head of a tiger holding an apple in his mouth (like a pig on a platter would) be ok? Or something like it? Apple + Tiger? I love tigers :-)
Do you need it in B&W or can I put color?
I can have it done more or less by tomorrow,

Hello y'all,
I need you to design a logo, for the show. Could you all think about something, and we'll choose one.
Something kind of simple, easy to recognize (that actually is the definition of a logo)...
See you

Fundraising
Dear Shuntians,
I am Romain, one of the 3 sciences-po students in charge of the organization of this events. So, first of all, nice to meet you.
We have compiled some kind of presentation booklet, and we would like to contact some sponsors with that. But, we need your help.
The first targets we have are the compagnies that are more or less interested in promoting young artists: So I need the names of all the compagnies that have given money to your schools, or to previous exhibition you had.
For example I know that Agnes B, sponsored some show at les Beaux-arts.
Second Targets: people who collect your works, and who could be interested in Helping this event to happen.
So could you send me all your ideas, and contacts on my email: romainsmail@yahoo.fr?
I hope I'll meet you pretty soon...
By the way, our british friend could maybe start to think about 2 or 3 people who could work on the project from London. I'll come next week to London, to meet them, and start to define a proper strategy.

Hello all,
I thought it's time for me to try out this whole blogg business, well I hope I am not entirely backward as it is already the year 2008 and officially this is the first time I try my hands on a blogg but better late than never and it is definitely time to say hello to you all so wait for it, I'll try to squeeze it out slowly like toothpaste as that's what I feel I should rather be doing, namely brushing my teeth, but seeing I'll surely have another cigarette or two before finishing this masterpiece erm probably not, well I'll definitely have the cigarette and brush my teeth, anyway Jocelyn mentioned my headbanging story so I reckon I should clarify what it was all about as surely it must appear to all who haven't seen me yet as if I looked like a Klingon, well I was told I have a big head, I assume they meant in in size, and I because I have a little hole in my chin like Don Swayze, the redneck brother of Patrick Swayze and was porn in Poland, some of my friends call me potatoe head at times, well I am drifting away so let's headbang back: by the way I told Jocelyn I was 16 when my headbanging accident happened but that was a lie, Jocelyn I'm sorry but my memory failed me there, possibly due to state dependent memory, as actually I was 13, but after watching 'what's eating Gilbert Grape' I was in this weird phase, for maybe two to three weeks, you know when you're around the age of four you start pretending to be a dog puppy and you bark and do what dog puppies do, I didn't pee on the carpet, and your mum then strokes your head, well I definitely had this dog phase, but when I was 13 I had the same thing with Leonardo Di Caprio aka Gilbert Grape's disabled brother, but a) for entirely different reasons, and b) for the same:
a) I didn't like Leonardo Di Craprio much and believed I would have done a much better job in acting a disabled boy
b) I actually just wanted to get attention, pathetic I know
so whenever I was seated and felt a bit lowI used to rock.. and one day I sat around the dinning table together with my mum and my sister and my mum was repeatedly telling me to stop rocking, but for some reason I did not listen, let's blame it on puberty and already having out-grown my mum by almost a head, and of course the pathetic need for attention, so I kept rocking, back and forth and back and forth, and again back and forth etc and i have to admit it felt/feels very comforting, apropos if you try to hold and cuddle a kangaroo baby in your arms it will kick your lights out but if you put it in a bag first and cuddle and shake it then softly it will think you're his/her mama, however if you saw an adult human doing the rocking you'd surely think this person is a bit coockoo, anyway so I am rocking back and forth and out of a sudden it felt as if someone grabbed me by my hair, pulled my head back and then slammed it with full force back on the table, you must think 'damn this guy's mum is cruel trying to teach him a lesson in this way' but no my mum didn't do it, my sister didn't do it either as they both stared wide-eyed and in complete disbelief at what has just happened to me, whilst I stared in disbelief on the two big toothmarks on the dinning table that my front teeth had just left - by the way I didn't lose my teeth but one chipped slightly.......
so apparently you can get in a trance-like state by emerging yourself in repetive and monotone body movements, so one could say I was in trance and decided to slam my face onto the dinning table, great, no clue what that says about me?
or if you believe in paranormal phenomena, and I believe in some at least, a ghost, maybe a chip of the old block with traditional manners, may have tried to show me that he had enough of watching me disobey my mother, well maybe it was a combination of both, maybe through trance the ghost was able to take possession of me more easily ? really I have no clue but now you know it was probably not worth telling haha
well in a couple of weeks I will try to post an essay on a paranormal phenomenon with much more depth, maybe in the form of a film, so that you'll know what I am engaging with currently, and in order for this blogg not be a complete waste of net space here are some youtube clips that I find very inspiring...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sLdoV1mQuc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYXsAy4xMiE
and to make you laugh check the link out below - it's another clip by Bert Haanstra about kids learning to swim, it doesn't matter that it is in dutch but hold out until the end, it's worth it, I promise, especially the boy who tries desperately to dive between the other boy's legs, by the way Bert Haanstra's two zoo clips are wicked too, although the second one is much better in my opinion...

so now I'm off to bed!

WORKING SPACE
"The Arts Gallery is pleased to present Working Space, an exhibition featuring five
experimental artists sharing a playful and dynamic approach to the manipulation of
space. Drawn from a range of disciplines, including photography, painting,
sculpture, architecture and installation, the artists reinvent the gallery as a
laboratory for spatial experiment."

SPOKEN WORD
Spoken Word is a poetry reading in both French and English in a café in Paris for those around on April 2 and April 23 from 9pm. Thought it would be a valuable addition to our blog as it's a performing event which allows the public to participate, blurring boundaries between audience and performers. And maybe another way of creating a "lien social".
Address: L'Ogre à Plumes, 49, rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, 11e. Paris

Hi Santa!
The only books I can think of for the moment are these:
1."Art contemporain et lien social" Claire Moulène , 2006, editions cercle d'art, (but it is maybe not as precise as what you need. It talks about projects that create a social form (lien social in french) by artists such as Thomas Hirschhorn, Tiravanija (obviously), Gianni Motti, Francis Alys, Jeremy Deller, AAA Corp etc
but I will continue to pick my brain...

Hi everyone,
I am hoping to pick your brains. I am working on an essay:
Critically assess the claim that a work of art is a "social form" capable of producing positive human relationships.
I have just finished reading 'Relational Aesthetics' am starting 'art and its social function' by Stephen Willats, after that I am planning to read some Guy Debord and Grant Kester's 'Conversation pieces'. I was just wondering if anyone had read anything they thought might be helpful.
See you soon.

Whiplash Headbang Pain Pain Pain!
Hello Shuntians!
Was nice meeting Sarah + London group last night at Loafer's Cafe and then later the Walpole pub. Sarah and I were involved in a performance called, "I want to frame you within me thread your pearls through me and wished with all my heart that I could've saved you from where I was sitting in this forest of students who remained thoughtless at your coaxing" (Yes, ANOTHER loooooong title - arrrghhhahah) I am now aching in places I never thought possible from the sequence of dance movements executed over 20 minutes nonstop (almost) during the show last night - I had to push/roll myself out of bed this morning because I couldn't get into an upright sitting position on my own! My flatmate says I'm suffering from whiplash, like how your neck becomes sore after it jerks back during violent braking in a car accident. (Franek also shared something interesting about doing headbangs when he was a kid)
So, on this note of violence, I say HELLO to everyone and look forward to the upcoming days of this project. You can visit my blog if you need more info about my past works - will be posting a video of last night's show soon.
I'm off to Singapore tomorrow folks but keep in touch :)

Sarah

Interviews
hi from Paris
I am trying now to collect the interviews you have already recorded ( in London and Paris)
I don't know exactly who dealt with the video recording in London.Would it be possible to send me everything so that i could send them online?
David, could you send me the one from Paris?
Perhaps the best idea is to send them on Google video with the same ID we are currently using on this Google blog.what do you suggest?
Benjamin

Blog structure and discussion
Dear all,
I have some thoughts in relation to how we could maybe organize the blog in order to improve our discussion, between the london and paris groups.
I think it would be good to divide it in terms of media (performance, installation, architecture, theory etc..). In the appropriate section, each one will post ideas and thoughts about the shunt show according to his/her interests, so it would much easier for everyone to go directly and start discussing, i...It's just a way to get more organized in order to get a wider picture of the people actual ideas for the show and to start having a discussion in terms of collaboration/cooperation.
I think also that the specific section for general announcements/fundings should be separated from the others... Benjamin, maybe you can create some sub-sections on the blog?
Let me know what do you think...
Best
Roberto

what a PDF looks like :)
All you have to send is a small Portfolio to introduce yourself and your work ( PDF is a computer size like JPG ).
You can check for instance here
Anyway I would prefer if you send me your porfolio in JPG size . Actually it is much easier to send it then online :)
Bises

ps: kisses from Sarah
Hello all of you.
I can see from Sarah's e-mail that I should have sent her my PDF, but I don't know how this PDF thing looks like since I've never heard of it before, blame it on my barbarian Norwegian background or something like that. Anyone want to send me their PDF as an example I can model mine after? You should have my e-mail address.
Marthe
